
Elm is a rather coarse brown wood rather like Oak. Having said that it turns well and finishes well - I often use just oil to leave the "feel" of the wood. Due to the open grain structure elm can look good limed.
Wych elm has a wider range of colours - sometimes orangy and when really lucky green streaks.
Burr elm is higly prized but is getting more and more difficult to get hold of. See the "Burrs & branches" section for this.
